The Gift of Life: Why Organ Donation Matters.

The Gift of Life: Why Organ Donation Matters.

Organ donation is one of the most powerful ways a person can leave a lasting impact. With a single decision, one donor can save multiple lives and bring hope to families in need.

The Positive Impact of Organ Donation

In the United States, more than 100,000 people are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and tragically, about 13 people die every day while still on the waiting list. Yet, the gift of organ donation has incredible potential: one donor can save up to eight lives and enhance many more through tissue donation.

How the Process Works

Becoming an organ donor is simpler than many people think. By registering and making your wishes known, you ensure that—if the time ever comes—your generosity could change or even save lives. It is also important to dispel myths: organ donation does not affect funeral services, and medical teams always prioritize saving the patient’s life first.

The Importance of Family Conversations

Discussing your decision with loved ones is essential. Families who are aware of their relative’s wishes often find comfort in honoring that choice, even in the most difficult times.

This Is Why I Believe in Organ Donation 💚

A Special Time in November

Each November, communities across the country observe National Donor Sabbath, a three-day celebration held from Friday through Sunday — this year, from November 14 to 16, 2025. During this time, faith leaders, medical professionals, and families come together to honor the gift of organ and tissue donation and to share messages of hope, generosity, and renewal. It is a moment to reflect on the lives saved through donation and to inspire more people to say “yes” to giving the ultimate gift — the gift of life.

How You Can Get Involved

Becoming a registered donor takes only a few minutes online or at your local DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles, the office where driver’s licenses are issued in the U.S.). You can also support donation programs by spreading awareness in your community, sharing educational resources, or participating in local events.

THE GIFT OF LIFE

Choosing to become an organ donor is a profound act of generosity and compassion. It is the ultimate gift of life—one that can bring hope, healing, and new beginnings to those waiting for a second chance.
